It’s been a little while since we gathered at The Arc, and if you were there, you’ll know it felt full of hope and joy.

It really did feel like the start of something.
Since then, we’ve been going through everything you shared, 175 comments, conversations, drawings, and future headlines. And one thing has really stood out:
People care deeply about Bedfordshire, and are ready to play a part in shaping what comes next.
What we’ve been doing
We’ve been working through your feedback to understand where the energy is strongest. (If you haven’t read Simon’s blog, he’s put his PhD skills to good use analysing it all, worth a read if that’s your thing!)
Four broad areas kept coming up:
Community & connection
Local economy & opportunity
Environment & nature
Infrastructure & transport
These aren’t fixed themes or committees. They’re starting points, ways for us to begin organising ideas and action without boxing people in too early.
Alongside this, something bigger has been taking shape.
Through conversations with many of you, an idea has emerged:
A resident-led 100-year plan for Bedfordshire.
Why a 100 Year plan?
Think long-term: Make sure the choices we make today still work for people decades from now.
People power: Residents get to decide what matters most, not just politicians or developers.
Bring us together: Connect communities, groups, and local organisations around shared goals.
Grow wisely: Make sure new development respects nature, heritage, and local character.
Have a say: Give citizens a real voice with decision-makers and investors.
Turn ideas into action: Move from talking about change to actually making it happen.
So…
What’s next
On 10th May, we’re bringing people together for our first Planning Party.
What is a Planning Party?
It’s a working session, for people who want to be part of building something real.
Together, we’ll start to:
shape our first public event in June (where we’ll begin launching the 100-year plan)
explore what matters most right now
and turn early ideas into something more tangible
We’ll also begin connecting people, skills, and energy, whether that’s helping shape direction, supporting comms, or simply showing up and getting involved.
How it will work
We’re keeping things open, on purpose. The planning party is for you to:
move towards what interests you
contribute in a way that feels natural
and connect with others who care about the same things
We’ll guide things just enough to keep momentum, but not so much that it closes things down.
And as before- your families are very much invited to help build this together. If you have any ideas on how to keep our younger members involved and engaged in the process as we train the citizens of tomorrow- let us know!
Join us
If you’ve been waiting for the right moment to get involved, this is it.
And if you haven’t yet shared how you’d like to be involved, you can still do that here:
This started with a conversation. Now it’s becoming something more. Hope to see you on the 10th,
Carly, Gabs, Matt and Simon
